OUR SCHOOL LIBRARY
At Orchard Lea Junior School, we want to instill a love of Reading in our children. A part of this is having a well-stocked school library, where we aim to have something for everyone – exciting fiction, including popular authors and new writers, across many different genres, and a wide range of non-fiction.
Each class has a weekly library visit, when the children can browse the books on the shelves and change their library books. There are also other opportunities across the week when children can visit the library including break times and lunchtimes. Mrs Gamble, the Librarian, is in the library on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons if the children have questions or if there are particular books they are looking for. There is also a requests book if the library is unmanned.
We hold a scholastic book fair every year – usually just in time for Christmas! The commission generated by these events helps us to buy new books to replace lost and damaged ones and to purchase new titles. We are very grateful to parents for their support with the book fairs – this is important to enable us to maintain our stock.
